The Captain Portrait

If the ship were going down, we'd grab this guy off the wall first. 

The 70's produced quite a bit of this style art, which we'll just call "Sea Captain Portraits", and this might be one of our favorites we've seen; we particularly like the color selection, and calm seas - it's a cheerier take on this genre.  A large scale portrait, at 29" high, this is an original, signed oil painting on canvas.  We know nothing of the artist, nor the captain, but history has not documented all legends of the sea.  What we do know is that he commands attention on the wall, and keeps watch with weathered eyes, nicely detailed with brushstrokes. The frame, in solid wood with inner canvas and gold detail,  is weathered just the right amount.

• This is a pre-loved dandie; in very good vintage condition, the frame has some bangs, and the new owner might want to clean the canvas lightly but this piece is fantastic and ready to hang.
