Rare French Art Deco Blanche Letalle for Saint-Clement Candelabra

Rare French Majolica Art Deco Candelabras

Rare French Majolica Art Deco Candelabras

Sometimes we stumble on a dandie that makes our heart skip, and this one almost stopped it entirely.  It's hard to dream up a design that is so decidedly art deco than this pair of French candelabras.

Produced by Saint-Clément, a French earthenware factory famous for its majolica  (opaque glaze, adorned with metal oxide enamel) pieces.  Founded in 1758, today it remains the only earthenware factory in France.

This particular set was designed by - as marked - by Blanche Letalle, considered Saint-Clement's "star designer", from the 1930s to 1958.  And we can see why.  The shape, the colors, the gold accent! It's all too. freaking. much.

The candelabra appears to be ready to wire for electric lamps - note the holes on the back - but is ready to fire up as a candlestick holder, which frankly we prefer.

In very good vintage condition for the estimated 1930's age, there is one minor chip on the back of one (see photo).  Fortunately it is in the back!
