I'll be straight with you: I didn't know what the word 'cruet' meant until today, which is defined as a small container for oil, or vinegar for use at the dining table. When I'm at my favorite Italian restaurants, and I'm masterfully/frantically creating the most epic oil/vinegar/parmesan bread dip, I never stopped to consider what these little ceramic jars were called. Cruets. That's the end of my speech. On to the goodies..
This beautiful cruet (ahem) set is handmade by an unknown artisan (who spent a long time creating a beautiful maker's mark, see photo!). We love the detailed stoppers, drip glaze - not to mention the organically imperfect saucer they sit on. They are bright enough to work into a modern kitchen, but would create a whole mood set on a farmhouse table.
