Nippon Hand Painted Butterfly Plates
Plates of the Century
Plates of the Century
These pretty, hand-painted butterfly plates are at least 100 years old! How do we know? They are marked with "Nippon" and we've learned this means they were imported between 1891 and 1921 (after that period, these would have been marked as "Japan".)
That means these are very special plates...antiques, even! We actually can't believe the age because the colors and condition of these delicate little saucers are in fantastic condition. The gold trim is slightly worn, but, listen, when you're 100 years old, your shine might be a little weary, too.
We believe these were part of a teacup and saucer set (we couldn't find the cups.) But, they'd make elegant dessert plates; or maybe treat them as art and display them on a mixed media gallery wall or on your spring shelf display.
- Set of 4 dainty plates that measure 5.25" in diameter
- Marked "Hand Painted Nippon"
- These are legitimate antiques and in excellent condition for their age. We haven't observed any chips or cracks, but the gold trim is a little worn on most of them
