MCM Silver Polka Dot High Balls

You know the thing about the good china you never eat on, or the good chair that's never sat in, or the good dress that just hangs forever in your closet?  One day, many years in the future, someone will stumble upon these items in a thrift store or church tag sale, and wonder what were they waiting for?  Such is the tragedy of this nearly pristine set of 1960's Dorothy Thorpe style highball glasses, still carefully nestled their chrome caddy.  This set of 8 sat on the record player console table for years; they were present while the family gathered around the TV for the moon landing, witnessed the start and end of the Vietnam war, and cringed quietly while Debbie took awkward prom pictures. They saw many, many plastic sofa covers come and go. Yet rarely was a Tom Collins ever served in them.  Until now; their moment has arrived. 

MCM designer/goddess Dorothy Thorpe made the "platinum band" style of glassware pattern famous - watch for it in your favorite episodes of Mad Men.  While it's unclear if these are Dot's or a close reproduction, we love the cheery and timeless polka dot pattern.  In near perfect condition, there's only few spots where the silver is scratched. It's unusual to find a set of 8 in such great condition with the original carrier.
