Vintage Beswick Pottery Mallard Duck Wall Pocket No. 5963, #19
1960s Mallard Duck Wall Pocket Collectible
1960s Mallard Duck Wall Pocket Collectible
Founded in 1892, Beswick Pottery was a real family affair comprised of James Wright and his sons John and Gilbert. In the heart of the English pottery industry, their pieces were produced in Longton, Staffordshire, England. The company started dabbling in figurines in the early 1900s with a successful Beatrix Potter line. Ultimately, the company sold to Royal Daulton but not before these highly collectible ceramic mallards were on 1960s wood paneling everywhere, usually arranged in trios.
The larger mallards, like this one, are wall pockets (ie. little planters). With two holes on the back to string some twine, put in a few stems or an air plant and let your heart fly back to the 60s. We think this guy would be a great start to a collection, or perhaps round out on existing one. As a standalone piece, we're also smitten - it looks great on the wall surrounded by other curated treasures or hanging by the front door to greet guests.
